School toilet cubicles
Cubicles take more abuse than anything else in a school. The material decides whether they last twenty years or start to swell and delaminate in five, and the hardware decides whether doors still lock in year three.
Supply-only list prices for school cubicles in solid grade laminate run from about £364 to £644 per cubicle before VAT. Fitting, removal of the old system and making good come on top.
When to replace cubicles
- Swollen or crumbling chipboard edges near the floor where mopping water sits.
- Doors that drop, gaps at the hinge side, or locks that no longer line up.
- Missing or broken indicator bolts, so pupils hold doors shut.
- Graffiti scratched through the surface, which cannot be cleaned off.
- Partitions too low or too short for pupils’ privacy at secondary age.

What to ask for in a school cubicle
The details that decide whether a school washroom still works in ten years.
Solid grade laminate for pupils
Solid grade laminate (SGL, also called compact laminate) is waterproof right through, so it survives wet floors and kicking. Keep MFC for staff areas.
Height to suit the age
Junior height for infants so staff can supervise; standard or full height for juniors and secondary pupils, where privacy matters most.
Doors without gaps
Rebated or flush-fronted doors close the sight lines at the hinge and lock side, the gaps pupils notice first.
School-grade hardware
Aluminium or stainless steel hinges and locks with emergency release from outside, anti-ligature options where needed and anti-finger-trap hinges for infants.
An ambulant cubicle
Guidance commonly recommends that where there are four or more cubicles, one is an ambulant cubicle with grab rails and an outward-opening door.
Lead time in the plan
Bespoke school cubicles are usually made in three to four weeks. Order before the end of the summer term.

Questions people ask
What are the best toilet cubicles for schools?
Solid grade laminate (SGL) is the usual choice for pupil toilets because it is waterproof all the way through and hard to damage. HPL faced board and MFC are cheaper but can swell if floors stay wet.
How much do school toilet cubicles cost?
Supply-only list prices start at about £364 per cubicle before VAT for solid grade laminate, rising to around £644 for full-height cubicles. Fitting and removal of the old system are extra.
Should school cubicles be full height?
Full height gives the most privacy and suits secondary schools and any block shared by boys and girls. Junior height, with a gap above, lets staff supervise young children.
How long do school toilet cubicles last?
Solid grade laminate cubicles with good hardware commonly last many years. Hinges and locks wear first; replacing hardware is cheap and extends their life.
Can we just replace the cubicles?
Yes, if the floor, walls and plumbing are sound. If the floor is damaged where the old cubicles stood or the pans move, it is usually better value to refit the whole block.
